Take me for a ride Show me something better We both know exactly what we came here for And maybe we won't make it through the night But I think that's alright I think it's nice just to live. For the million reasons why We each live our lives I don't wanna die Not while you're alive.
2.
I know now where I'm going And it's called 'the grave' But you should be damn sure I won't spend my life afraid For our time is short and you can't waste a whole damn day thinking I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now Time will do me wrong I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now Death will cut me off If Track 1 said otherwise Well that was then, and this is now It's ok to change your mind After all, there's so much time For love and loss to make you waste your whole damn day thinking I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now In time I'll do such wrong I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now Death will cut me off I wanna go back there now (That could be merciful) I wanna go back there now (I may not wanna live) I wanna go back there now (For what's a life that's spent alone?) I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back right now I wanna go back there now In time I'll do such wrong I wanna go back there now I wanna go back right now I wanna go back there now Death will cut me off I wanna go back there now (Won't you take me there?) I wanna go back there now (Can't you take me higher?) I wanna go back there now Time will do me wrong I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now I wanna go back there now Time will cut me... Off.

about

'Spat (+5)' is the second entry in an ongoing artistic exploration. Drawing conceptual inspiration from the contemplative "Up" documentary series, Kallan revisits and reimagines the themes from his 2018 debut album 'Spat' through the lens of five years of introspection, evolution, and rediscovery.

The album goes deep, peeling back layers to reveal the essence of transformation – both on a personal level and as an artist unafraid of pushing boundaries. Each lyric and every note offers an unfiltered glimpse into his evolution, capturing shifting perspectives on timeless themes – from the enigma of life's journey to the intricacies of love, relationships, God, the church, family and self-discovery.

The album draws its musical inspiration from across a diverse tapestry of genres and eras, weaving together the soulful echoes of legends like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye on ''I Wanna Go (+5)' and 'Kallan (+5)', and referencing the musicality of modern staple D'angelo on 'I Don't Know (+5)'. At points, Kallan draws from the well of Bon Iver, filtering his voice to unlock increased vocal sincerity. And the epic 'Interlude (+5)', even veers into the territory of french disco to take the listener on an aural journey across the sensory landscape of social anxiety.

Kallan's lyrical and musical references venture into lesser-charted territory, leaning on allusions to Tolstoy, Kierkegaard and even Neon Genesis Evangelion to tie a thread between the different centuries of christian-influenced existentialism. The lyrics on 'Spat (+5)' are far less considered than the original. 'Kallan', which encouraged listeners to ruminate on their own death, now angrily attacks capitalism for 'sucking fat from all the land'. Where the original 'Interlude' testified to Kallan's intense fear of commitment, 'Interlude (+5)' depicts a songwriter far more afraid of losing love than of failing to maintain it. And on 'Either/Or (+5)', Kallan obsesses over the damage dealt to his self worth by the christian church, moving away from the theological and spiritual paralysis of the original song.

It's in this comparative analysis that 'Spat (+5)' truly shines. As algorithmic curation and fast-moving social media feeds require artists to continuously generate content and immediately move on, Kallan is comfortable sacrificing visibility for introspection. The concept of revisiting past works is not unknown to the mainstream music listener, having been recently undertaken by Taylor Swift to great acclaim. But where Swift seeks to assert musical ownership, Kallan is looking to engage in a critical dialogue with his past self - and inviting listeners along for the ride.

Produced and recorded entirely in his bedroom, 'Spat (+5)' is a work of perseverance and artistic commitment. After a technical mishap led to his computer being wiped, a re-recorded version of the album emerged in under two months. Its energy is palpable, its vulnerability intact, and its passion undeniable. This isn't just a collection of tracks; it's a testament to resilience, a journey, and an unapologetic spirit.

Whether you were one of the few to listen to to the first album when it was released, or are encountering his music for the first time, 'Spat (+5)' invites you to join Kallan on a journey of personal growth, artistic exploration, and the ceaseless pursuit of authenticity.
